Laserscopic Spine Surgery

This is a new definition for endoscopic spine surgery, microspine surgery, or minimally invasive spine surgery. It simply adds the new definition of lasers which are often utilized in minimally invasive spinal surgery. By definition these surgeries are minimally invasive and thus involve incisions of less than an inch as defined by MicroSpine Surgical Group in DeFuniak Springs, Florida per their recent publications.

Surgery such as fusions and artificial disc replacement (ADR) involves insertion of metallic devices via larger conventional surgeries. Fusions are by definition attempts to stabilize the spine via either rods and screws whist ADR's involve metallic devices that allow continues mobility. In fact there are now new devices which are called mobile fusions which offer the ease of insertion of regular fusions with the mobility issues granted by the ADR. Nonetheless, these are not minimally invasive techniques and thus involve incisions of usually 3 inches or greater. There are some fusions that involve smaller incisions of around 2 inches with multiple openings but when one adds up the incisions, there is still around 6 inches of cuts.
